As important as it is to push hard in the gym to make progress, your body does not actually build muscle or increase fitness during your workout. Training acts as the stressor that breaks your tissue down, and the true growth happens afterward.
To maximize your results, you must also practice two important aspects of physiological repair: targeted nutrition and strategic rest. Ignoring these components can lead to chronic fatigue, plateaus, and preventable injuries.
Here are 4 important refueling practices to reach peak performance:
1. Rebuild with High-Quality Protein
During strenuous activity, your muscle fibers experience micro-tears. Dietary protein supplies the essential amino acids needed to patch these tears, promoting synthesis and preventing muscle wasting.
Tip:
Consume 20 to 40 grams of protein within a few hours of training.

Chicken breast, turkey, wild-caught salmon, eggs, Greek yogurt, or plant-based options like tofu and lentils.
2. Refuel Glycogen with Complex Carbohydrates
